That’s a part of the basic definition: not giving a wrongdoer the punishment he deserves. “God is merciful to children, but the children must be worthy as well” When he does talk about mercy in his sermons, he misuses the term: He focuses on God’s wrath upon fornicators more than God’s mercy. Hegbert is a lot more of a fanatic than I remembered. Most of my issues with A Walk to Remember are related to Reverend Hegbert Sullivan’s biblical philosophy, the social prejudices of the story’s time period, and Landon’s character at the beginning of the book. Should I have just lived in the blissful ignorance of my thirteen-year-old mind (since that’s when I first read this book) or is it just time I notice and accept this book’s flaws? I’m starting to question whether I should have reread this or not.
